The modern diet is very high in sodium. Processed snack foods such as potato chips, popcorn.
salted nuts, and others are very high in sodium, as are canned and fast foods, and many animal foods. Salt, and especially refined table salt, is a more yang or contractive substance.
It causes the tissues to constrict or tighten, and when taken excessively, inhibits the flow of energy through the chakras and merid- ians.
It also hardens deposits of saturated fat and cholesterol in the body, and when taken excessively, contributes to drying, tightening, and shriveling of the skin and hair.
Naturally processed sea salt contains many trace minerals in addition to sodium chloride. It has a much milder effect on the body when used properly in cooking.
